DESCRIPTION:
The
County of Surry is accepting applications for the position
of Local Health Director. This position
is responsible for the overall management of the Surry County
Health and Nutrition Center with a primary purpose to promote
and protect the health and well-being of the citizens of Surry
County. This position involves advanced administrative
and consultative work for a public health program for a County
of approximately 70,000 people with a total budget of approximately
$8 million. Duties of the local health director
include planning, organizing and directing a varied program
of public health services; coordinating the work of physicians,
public health nurses, and Health Department staff responsible
for conducting programs in chronic and communicable diseases,
maternal health, public health, nutrition, environmental health,
animal control, and related areas; consulting with private
physicians as well as state and federal agencies. The
position will supervise a staff of approximately 220. Work
is performed under the guidance of a local health board and
the Board of County Commissioners working with the County Manager
and is evaluated to determine the effectiveness of administrative,
medical and consultative services provided. The successful
applicant must be a Surry County resident or relocate within
six months of employment.
REQUIREMENTS:

A
master’s degree in public health administration
and at least one year of employment experience in health
programs or health services; or

A master’s
degree in public health discipline other than public health
administration and at least three years of employment experience
in health programs or health services; or
-
A master’s
degree in public administration and at least two years
experience in health programs or health services; or
-
A master’s
degree in a field related to public health and at least
three years of experience in health programs or health
services; or
-
A bachelor’s
degree in public health administration or public administration
and at least three years experience in health programs
or health services; or
-
A medical
doctorate.

training and experience requirements are in accordance
with GS 130A-40 and GS 130-45.5)
