Message from the President

I am honored to be your President for 2008. We have many important tasks before us, yet none is greater than to serve all of our residents with vision and commitment. As local public health leaders we are the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and we must join with others to craft a system of prevention and care that will serve all who live in this State. As have others who have fulfilled this role as President, I pledge to listen to each of you who truly are the experts in local public health, I pledge to facilitate meaningful discussion and learning and I pledge to represent the views of the entire Association.

I believe we have a unique opportunity before us to carry the messages of health promotion, prevention of disease and protection of our populations and environment further than we have been able to in the past. It will take all of us working together and singing the same tune in our communities, with our legislators and policymakers, and with our partner organizations and agencies.

Our major tasks for 2008 are twofold:

  • To promote the role and expertise of public health departments in population-based services to the public and policymakers and;
  • Strengthen the core public health functions at local health departments through an increased focus on the ten essential services.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you as President. Whether you are a member of the Association or a partner organization, please join us for the work ahead!
